Axle
Meet the very handsome Axle, a 5 yr old, black and white piebald, neutered, male. He is a healthy, kind of portly tweenie, current on all his vaccinations. Axle loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed. Unlike most dachshunds who think they will melt like the witch in the Wizard of Oz if they get wet, Axle LOVES to have a bath. And like most doxies, he loves dinner time and especially his treats. He's not big on 'playing', he just wants to be in the middle of whatever is going on. It takes him a bit to warm up to new people, but he is overall friendly. Axle is a pretty healthy boy but historically had chronic issues with his anal glands that ultimately led to the removal of the glands. There has been no issues since then.
Axle definitely needs a doxie/dog adopter who is knowledgeable, experienced and willing to work with him. He has a quirk or two. He tends to be a one person dog and can be very protective of that person. He might bark, etc., but has never attempted to bite anyone. Axle is good with other small dogs, but has a dominant personality. He has been raised and lived with his brother Ollie, who is also up for adoption, but has been known to bully his brother. Therefore, it might be best if he is an only dog. Or, if there is another dog in the home it would need to be an even tempered dog with a strong personality to help calm his dominant tendencies. He also has an obsession with his tail - he gets angry at it and barks at it. He can get hyper focused on it and because of his issue with his tail, he doesn't like his rear area (lower back) petted or touched. This might stem from the issues he has with his anal glands.
Both Axle and Ollie (has his own page) are being offered for adoption, as the owner's situation has changed to a point where she can no longer keep them. They are offered together or separately. All applications will be considered, however, we feel that the any adopters looking to adopt only one of the boys needs to have another dog in the house.
