Happy Tails
Princess Heidi, a very special girl!
Heidi was a BCAC neglect case she was brought into the vets office where Emily and Aimee her angels worked. After a few days they were told that she would need to be euthanized due to her disability and finances. Her angels would do no such a thing. Aimee adopted her and built her a homemade wheelchair (cart). They shared the responsibility of taking care of Heidi. She lived half the week with Emily and half the week with Aimee. After a few months of this the decided it was in Heidi's best interest to find her furever family. Emily contacted Monti at DRNC, Monti put her picture and profile on the website. I instantly fell in love and turned in my application. I waited very impatiently for a few days which seemed like months for a call. On mother's day Emily called and we talked for my whole lunch break. She came to my house a few days later to meet what would be Heidi's new Dad and brother (Baxter). We made plans to meet Heidi in Chico. We immediately fell in love with her. Heidi has more than fit in with our family, she is a Daddy's girl (yes it breaks my heart), and she and Baxter are inseparable. She was not supposed to sleep in bed with us as Baxter did not, but who can say no to a dachshund, they now share the bed with us. She has seen the ocean, has gone to the Oregon coast, goes to the park all the time, has a new pretty pink cart that she loves and a stroller for when she gets tired. She is VERY spoiled and has made an impact on everyone she meets. She is one tough cookie she came from neglect, was given a second chance and has NEVER forgotten how to love. She may not be able to use her hind legs due to her kyphosis, but it doesn't stop her from being awesome. She is full of the typical doxie moxie and we love it! She is our Heidi, the handicappable dachshund! Thank you Emily and Aimee for saving her and giving her a second chance at life and love, and giving us the chance to love her and be her family. Thank you Monti for putting her story out there. Thank you Heidi for being the amazing wonderful loving little girl you are! I love you all and am more thankful to each of you than words can express. The Johnson's Joel, Kim, Baxter, and," Princess" Heidi.
Henry and Chili
When Tracy moved from Utah to California to be with her fiance, Travis, she began working from home. She was very lonely all those hours by herself and one day she found a picture of Henry on the Dachshund Rescue of Northern California website. Henry was super thin and had enormous sad eyes. She forwarded t he picture to Travis at work and that weekend they traveled from Sacramento to Chico to meet him. It was love at first sight for Travis and Tracy but Henry was slow to warm up to them! They brought Henry home, fattened him up and gave him lots of love. Less than a year later and with a baby on the way, they decided they had to have a friend for Henry. So once again, Tracy jumped on the website and found Chili. With his one brown eye and one blue eye he was hard to miss. So as soon as the weekend rolled around they packed Henry in the car and headed back up to Chico. Chili didn't seem all that interested in Travis, Tracy or Henry and poor Henry seemed a little worried he was being returned. But the next weekend back to Chico they went to pick Chili up. On the two hour drive home, Chili and Henry snuggled on Tracy's ever expanding belly. With two doxie boys in the house it was constant play time and although Henry and Chili had completely different personalities they became fast friends. A few months later the furry brothers becameolder brothers to a human baby sister, Peyton. As she grew, they were her constant companions and she learned to roll, scoot and walk to try to keep up with them! When Peyton was three, the family prepared to move from California to Utah. A few days before leaving, the house was full of boxes and in the midst of all the excitement, Peyton figured out for the first time how to open the front door. A few minutes later, Travis found Chili sitting by the front door – something he had never done before. When Travis looked out, there was Peyton a few blocks down the road on her way to the park to play. And by her side, was Henry, trotting right along to make sure to keep her out of trouble. Poor Chili was apparently sad to be missing out on all the fun! Once in Utah, Peyton, Henry and Chili quickly adjusted to their new life. In fact, for Henry and Chili it wasn’t long before their grandparents fell so in love with them that they too adopted a doxie – a wire haired named Coco. So now there are three doxies in the family and they love hanging out together.
Thanks to Monti for fostering our doxie boys – we can’t imagine a life without them now.

Jackie O
Jackie O. is the sweetest little Dachshund/Jack Russell mix you could ever imagine. She now has a loving family of college age kids who come home to visit and adore her plus two loving full time "Human Parents". Every day she spends with her new mommy and two new brothers who think she is beautiful. She doesn't bark much at all (Hardly makes a peep) and is still very skittish from her former life. She cowers at so many things but is slowly getting better and feeling more secure.
She is so concerned about her looks. I have never had a dog who would look in the mirror. I have a free standing one in my bedroom that she found right away and tips it down so she can make sure she looks good for the day. She has used it almost every day since coming to live in her new "forever home". It is adorable. She is definitely "Our First Lady."

Gillian, the Happy Yorkie (Honorary Dachshund)
Yes, indeed she is blossoming every day. I'm getting eye contact, which she didn't at first, and she even lets me cuddle, when I insist....lol. She plays with her toys and people. She's getting along great with the other dogs, but, still loves to chase my cat when he tries to sneak in, in the middle of the night.......but, she always hears him and the chase is on. My old Himalayan runs, but he's bigger than her, so all he'd have to do is stand and she stops, but maybe he hasn't figured it out yet.
Gillian has really become the social butterfly. I think that's what she needed. There were 5 dogs at a party we went to...a Poodle, Yorkie, a Chihuahua, Maltese and Gillie......? But, she finally learned that there are some "neat" dogs that will play with her.
Thanks so much for getting her for me.

Simone, our hairless Princess
Simone has been the biggest Godsend ever! I have a 3 year old peruvian hairless named Einstein, and I have fallen in love with the hairless breeds. Recently my husband passed away, and I have been looking for another hairless for companionship for myself, my daughter and for Einstein. I looked at several dogs and none seemed to be the "perfect match". When I came across Simone, I just knew it was meant to be. From the first time I saw her, I knew she would be a wonderful addition to our family. Cindy, Monti and Robin were all so friendly and informative, they really made the adoption process an enjoyable one. Simone is the perfect little diva-therapy dog. My daughter and I love to spend time with the dogs, and have an especially fun time primping and pampering Simone.

Jackson, a ball of energy
The minute we met Jackson we knew he was something special. He has been a part of our family now for 8 months and we can't image how someone ever gave up such a wonderful guy. We understnad people's lives change and we are very glad that we were able to rescue such a great little dog (though he doesnt think he is a dog). The great thing we liked about adopting from DRNC is that they clearly identified any possible issues so we had no surprises after getting Jackson home.
Jackson now spends his days digging holes in the field hoping someday he will catch a mole and then he spends his nights hogging the bed taking up way too much room for a 17lb dog.

The following is the latest update from Jackson's new family:
Dear Monti:
Jackson is doing so well!!
About 5 months ago we rescued a German Shepherd named Lilly. She is a very Alpha Female so the two had a rough start getting along but now after 5 months they are best friends and inseperable.
I took them to the beach on Saturday and it was the cutest thing ever, whenever a big dog would come over to sniff Jackson, Lilly would immediatly get between them to make sure no one would mess with her little buddy.
We are so happy with the little guy, he is truly a part of our family!!!!!!

Arlo, the little gentleman
(Yeah we know, he is a funny looking dachshund.)Well, he certainly is a keeper. He arrived about 5:30 p.m. last night and we were cuddleling by 7:00. He has already taken over my bed and my recliner but does allow me space in both. We had to work out that potty breaks go out the back door into the back yard but he now seems to get it. He is also doing a terrific job of keeping the ferrell cats of the neighborhood aware if they dare to be on the fence of his turf. Right now, he just realized that I was in the computer room and is now curled up on the guest bed, watching my every move. I'm so pleased. Tomorrow i will need to leave him alone for a few hours and go into work so we'll see how he does. The back door will be open slightly so that he can get in and out.
Thanks again,
Velma

Niko aka Bubba
We lost both of our beloved doggies earlier this year to heart disease and a stomach tumor, leaving my wife and I with an emptiness in our hearts. We felt very fortunate to adopt Otto, a double dapple dachshund from the YoloSPCA, but like potato chips, one is never enough. After searching the web for hours to adopt another dachshund, I came across Niko at the Dachshund Rescue of Northern California who had just hours before been put up for adoption. He was exactly what we were looking for in a buddy for Otto. After completing the adoption paper work, Robin drove for hours to deliver Niko(now Bubba) to us. Bubba and Otto are just the best of buddies, romping, sparring, running most of the day, whenever they are not napping together.
Thank goodness for the dedication of the good people of Dachshund Rescue of Northern California.
PS: Its the strangest thing, since Bubba has been here my shoes and socks magically turn up in the family room.

A Sweetie Named Sasha aka Wiggles
In January of 2009, our little family was complete when we met Sasha, the almost 5 year old black and tan Piebald.
Sasha had been at a very loving foster home for over a year but due to personality clashes between her and her 'roommate' (a golden retriever) it was decided that Sasha needed a home with either a smaller dog or none at all. So after the difficult decision was made, Sasha was put on this website through a 3rd party dachshund 'relocater' out of Forest Ranch, California.
I came across this website after doing a broad search of Dachshund rescue's in the Northern California area and Sasha happened to be at the top of this list. When I first saw her picture, I fell in love with those absolutely puppy dog hound eyes. I knew right away from all the other doxies on the site that Sasha was different. She has the most striking coloring that I'd ever seen on a Dachshund, and I've grown up with them my whole life. So shortly after discussing it with my fiancee we decided to fill out an application. Which in turn meant we had to call our land lord and get the 'ok' which of course we got! Before I knew it I had recieved a phone call saying, "when would you like to meet?" I of course said, as soon as possible!
The day finally came and it was a very long day of waiting, but when they finally arrived Sasha was immediately put in my arms, and the rest is history...
I have to thank Suzy and Ray for being so sweet, and honestly concerned for her well being. I consider Sasha and myself lucky because they want to visit and check on her whenever they're in the area. I'm sure Sasha really appreciates it, I know I do. I also want to thank Monti (my 3rd party relocater hehe..) I recently had the pleasure of meeting Monti at the Dachshund Day in the Park in Chico, CA and she was just as sweet as her emails and phone calls made her out to be!
If it werent for these three people I wouldnt have my precious Sasha, (aka, Wiggles)
Thank you,
Danielle and Justin
